A nice theme for Ubuntu October 13, 2006

Update: for a theme for Ubuntu that looks a lot cooler, check out this page on my new bloghttp://blog.verani.net/2007/04/nice-theme-for-ubuntu-20.html

I have found a really nice theme for my Gnome Ubuntu desktop. It retains the orangey-brownish colouring of Ubuntu, but it looks really nice and light. I like the Dapper Human theme, but it is a little too heavy for me sometimes.

This theme is called VistaBuntu, and it looks sort of like Windows Vista, but is Ubuntu coloured.

All the controls are similar to vista, but they are coloured like the gnome-theme Gilouche. The glow/highlight/selected colour is a nice orangey-pinky. It is very easy on the eyes. Another thing I like about it is the contrast of the colour of menus and the rest of the window.

For wallpaper, I recommend the one I have in the screenshot, but I don’t remember what it is called. I think it is Tux G2 without the Tux. It is like an orange coloured Apple wallpaper.

Looks good with tiny fonts (I use Loma size 8 for everything).

Have fun.

I would like to get this theme. How can I get it and what are the steps for installing it. Thanks.

Hmmm. There seems to be a lot of demand for this theme… You can get it by going to http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php?content=46930.

It is installed like any other gnome theme (System>Preferences>Theme>Install..)

Thanks for the interest

I installed the theme.. from where to apply the theme now!?!

7. ioannusdeverani - March 8, 2007

%Sachin: You apply the theme by going to System>Preferences>Theme. Then, you hit something like edit or advanced (I am on windows now, so I am not sure what the button is called…). From the window that pops up, you can apply the vistabuntu controls and window decorations (for metacity).

Thanks for your quick respone…

The steps I followed to install the theme.
1. On System>Preferences>Theme Clicked “Install Theme”.
2. Browsed the theme click on Open… got a message
“GNOME Theme VistaBuntu correctly installed” click on OK.

Now I lost the theme.. if I see the list of themes in the list I can’t find the VistaBuntu in there !?!

Where could I get it???

9. ioannusdeverani - March 8, 2007

Well, I don’t think it will go into the main list; you will have to apply it through the custom theme thing, where you specify what gtk and metacity themes to use.

I hope this helps

Hey!
Heres a great theme I discovered on Gnome-look which gives you the vista glass effect over Gnome.

The configuration steps for Ubuntu are here:
