Google Office slowly integrating with Gmail November 3, 2006

Via Google Blogoscoped, Gmail now allows the opening of Excel spreadsheets in Google Spreadsheets. While this is nice integration of products, I think that it is generally useless. Why? Because Google Spreadsheets is soooooo slooowwwwwwwww. Slower than any other spreadsheet solution that I have ever tried (good alternatives include EditGrid and Zoho Sheet). For instance, when I tried to open an Excel attachment (not terribly light weight, but for real people to use it, it should be able to handle heavy sheets), it took about twenty seconds before I decided to abort.
I was surprised that they didn’t try to integrate Google Docs first, because it is probably more useful, and faster. I look forward to Google making Spreadsheets faster.
BTW: in spirit of the occasion, I am posting from Google Docs.
