How the heck do I make iTunes stop skipping? January 3, 2007

I have been asking this question for a long time. What happens is when I play a song on iTunes, all is well until I open up another program (like IE or even an explorer window). Then it starts crackling until it sounds like Popeye when he has had too much to drink (git-git-git-git-git….). I know that this is not my computer's fault (I have 1 Gig of RAM; don't you think that should be enough to edit a word document and listen to music at the same time?).

I searched some forums web-sites and I finally found what I wanted. The steps start with getting into the Quicktime preferences. These can be found under Control Panel, or inside Quicktime itself.

  1. Go to the audio tab
  2. Select the check-box that says Safe Mode (waveOu only).
  3. Immediately, my iTunes was working. If it doesn't work immediately, try restarting iTunes.
  4. Enjoy

Ya just tried that on an old post and it doesn’t work. I don’t get it. I kind of works fine on my home computer, but I use it on my notebook and it doesn’t work at all. I love itunes for buying music.. but I was hoping to use it to Dj tonight.. looks like im burning the music and then using winamp.

This is an absolutely perfect solution for me— when it lasts. My problem is that the box gets checked back without any intervention on my part. How do I get it to STAY unchecked and not go back to its default?
